The US-based electric vehicle maker Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) produced its 10-millionth vehicle at its Fremont, California factory this week.

Tesla Fremont factory employees gathered outside the production line on the vehicle’s path to delivery to the outbound lot to celebrate the milestone. Interestingly, the 10-millionth Tesla vehicle is the new Model Y Juniper.

The automaker shared glimpses from the milestone celebrations on X. Tesla chose the Fremont factory to produce the 10-millionth vehicle because it’s where the company started production of its cars around 14 years ago (June 2012).

The first unit produced at the iconic Tesla Fremont factory was a Model S luxury electric sedan, and the 10-millionth unit is a mid-sized electric SUV, a Tesla Model Y.

The Fremont factory holds a special place in Tesla’s history, as it’s where Tesla started production of the Model S and Model X. Until the discontinuation of these vehicles in March 2026, Tesla Fremont was the only factory that made Model S and X vehicles.

Elon Musk and his team also faced the Tesla Model 3 production hell at the Fremont factory in 2017-2018. So, it sits special in Musk’s journey to Tesla’s success as a carmaker.

Tesla’s Production Ramp

Tesla announced the 5-million vehicle production milestone in September 2023. Since then, Tesla has fairly increased its vehicle production capability. In the last 3 years, the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas, has been a great addition in this regard.

Although it took Tesla 14 years to achieve the 10-million vehicle production milestone, it took Tesla slightly less than 3 years to accomplish the same milestone.

Tesla broke ground on its Gigafactory in Shanghai in January 2019. Giga Shanghai started production in December 2019 (yep, a fast-track factory development).

Until Giga Shanghai began production, Fremont was the only factory where Tesla made cars. Although Giga Nevada was there, it was never used to make cars, only battery cells and packs.

The addition of Giga Berlin and Giga Texas gave the automaker the ability to mass-produce electric vehicles. Despite challenges, Tesla has sold most of its production inventory till the latest Q2 2026.

Tesla (CEO) Elon Musk aims to further increase vehicle production output multiple times as the new two-seat Cybercab robotaxi vehicle nears production of customer vehicles later this year or early in the next year at Giga Texas.
