Tesla has started the wide rollout of its over-the-air (OTA) software update version 2026.8. This new firmware update is going out to Tesla’s global fleet of cars.
According to TeslaFi and Tessie, approximately 10-12% of Tesla owners worldwide have installed the 2026.8 update.
The ‘2026’ in the firmware version refers to the current year 2026, and ‘8’ refers to the 8th week of the year when this software branch was developed. As of this writing, the 2026.8 update rollout is expanding to Tesla cars in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East (official release notes below).
Tesla update 2026.8 brings the Comfort Braking feature to the new Model Y Juniper (model year 2025 and above). This feature makes routine braking feel smoother than before.
In the automotive industry’s history, it’s remarkable that Tesla can tweak human-initiated braking via a free OTA update to enhance the braking/driving experience and safety.
The new Model Y (codenamed Juniper) is the only Tesla vehicle with dual master cylinders. This new engineering innovation allows the electric SUV to perform both human-initiated and Autopilot AI-triggered brakes as smoothly as an experienced chauffeur. Last year, on Jay Leno’s Garage, Tesla’s lead engineer, Lars Moravy explained this new engineering technique in detail.

The 2026.8 software update also brings improvements to the in-car Spotify app and on-screen navigation. It also adds a new British-accented voice, Leo, to the list of Grok AI Assistants. This new Grok AI persona has been added for Tesla owners in the UK or those who prefer English with a British accent.
In addition to North America, Gork was rolled out to Tesla cars in Europe with the 2026.2.6 software update last month.
In the 2026.8 software update, Cybertruck gets a unique new feature. Tesla Cybertruck now issues a warning if it detects vehicles, humans, bicycles, etc., in its blind spot, even when it’s parked. This is done to improve safety as the Cybertruck is a large truck with wide doors that can hit objects not visible to the human eye (see release notes below for details).
