Las Vegas Metropolitan Police (LVMPD) Chief Sherriff Kevin McMahill delivered his 2025 State of the Department address on Tuesday. During his address, he announced that his department is getting a fleet of 10 Cybertrucks.
Interestingly, last month, at the start of the new year, a Cybertruck blast happened outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas. Aside from the sad incident, the durability and strength of the Tesla Cybertruck’s stainless steel body came into focus.
However, Sherriff Kevin McMahill clarified that the Las Vegas Metro PD ordered its Cybertrucks before the Trump Hotel blast.

According to the Sheriff, the LVMPD is going to get a fleet of 10 Cybertrucks. These Cybertrucks are donated by a ‘generous’ individual who he did not name during his address.
Since these Cybertrucks are donated to the Las Vegas Metro Police, the purchase does not impact the department’s general budget. Tesla Cybertrucks are also low on maintenance being an electric vehicle and having a rigid body and overall architecture.
LVMPD is going to get two types of Cybertrucks to add to its fleet of customized police vehicles — a patrol and a SWAT version.
As the LVMPD Sherriff announced the acquisition of the Tesla Cybertruck fleet, the presentation screen showed the patrolling version (image above) and the SWAT version (see below).
The patrolling version of the Cybertruck is near completion. The SWAT variant is going to take a couple of months to complete as the Sherriff gave an update on the development of these vehicles. Both of these variants will be bulletproof Cybertrucks (glasses included).

I wrote the following complete transcript of LVMPD Sherriff Kevin McMahill’s announcement on getting the Cybertruck as he disposed of some important information and future plans (complete address video below).
And then a little bit of good news for you, these bada** machines — we’ve ordered 10 of them — and they didn’t come out of our budget again — they came out of a very generous donation from an individual.
By the way, we ordered this before the Trump Tower — Okay. But I will tell you that in looking at — why do we want these things — number 1 is the cop inside is gonna be safe no matter what — they’ll stop bullets — they’re also a tremendous recruitment tool for us.
We’re gonna have the largest fleet of Tesla police trucks that exists in the country and it did not impact our general budget.
In fact we have a couple of folks that are flying down to California I believe Thursday or Friday to check in on the status of these things as we get them.
Imagine when we’re out and we’re charging these things and these officers are going to be approached by people all over the community to see this thing. It’s an opportunity for that injecting humanity to increase our partnership, to increase understanding, to develop relationships — all those things that we’ve talked about.
That’s what the whole is behind these things as well.
And then this one is a SWAT vehicle and that is going to be a month or two behind that but it is another armored version of a Tesla truck that our SWAT team who’s literally best in the country will be able to deploy with great regularity to keep the men and women safe that are out there doing this work.
At CloudWorld 2023, Oracle Corporation showcased its specialized police patrol Cybertruck concept. Oracle CEO Larry Ellison said during his keynote that this next-gen police patrol car made out of a Cybertruck is coming soon.
In the mid of last year, I received an email from Oracle Corp that the finalized Cybertruck would be unveiled in September 2024. However, the project has been facing unexpected delays and there has been no further updates as of this writing.
