Tesla (TSLA) has finally stopped taking the Cybertruck Foundation Series orders through its online configurator. This suggests that the Foundation Series Cybertruck production has also been terminated at Giga Texas. This also marks a year of production of the Foundation Series Cybertrucks.
Earlier this month, the Austin, TX-based electric vehicle manufacturer opened the configurator of the cheaper non-Foundation Cybertruck only for the existing reservation holders. The configurator opened only to reservation holders to give them a chance to get the Cybertruck before the general public.
Tesla opened the Cybertruck configurator for non-Foundation orders on Friday. Tesla seems to have received the maximum number of orders from reservation holders and finally opened the gates for the general public to get their unorthodox electric pickup truck.
Prices, Options, Features
Tesla has made both Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and Tri-Motor Cyberbeast variants available to order. The starting prices of these variants are as follows:
- Cybertruck AWD = $79,990
- Cybertruck Cyberbeast = $99,990
However, in the non-Foundation Cybertruck variants, Tesla has removed some of the options from ‘included’ to ‘Premium’ for a price tag.
Interior Trims
The White Décor (white interior trim for dashboard and door panels) is now a premium option that costs an additional $2,000. The Tactical Grey Décor is the included interior trim option.
On the Foundation Series, customers had the choice of either interior trims included in the price of the Cybertruck.
Wheels and Covers
Cybertruck comes with 2 different wheel and cover design options — ‘Core Wheels and Covers’ and the ‘Cyber Wheels and Covers’. Just like the interior trims, Tesla has segmented them into included and premium choices.
The Cyber Wheels and Covers is the original design that Tesla introduced for the Cybertruck a few years ago. The new Core Wheels and Covers were launched earlier this year.
The original Cyber Wheels and Covers are now a premium option with a hefty price tag of $3,500. The newer Core Wheels are included in the price.
Interestingly, the premium Cyber Wheels and Covers reduce the Cybertruck’s range by 19 miles (30.5 km). Cybertruck AWD comes with an EPA-estimated range of 320 miles (515 km). As soon as you select the Cyber Wheels and Covers option, the range drops to 301 miles (484.5 km).
Range Extender
The Cybertruck range figures Tesla announced at the truck’s delivery event last year were somewhat disappointing. The automaker also disclosed that it will be launching a range extender to accommodate for the lower range.
The official photo of the range extender suggests that it’s a large plug-and-play boxy battery pack that installs on the truck bed and covers almost half of it.
However, the Cybertruck range extender is not just massive in size, it’s also heavy on the bank account. Tesla is offering the range extender for an additional $16,000.
Because the Range Extender battery is going to be available mid 2025, Tesla is asking to pay $2,000 upfront to reserve your spot in the delivery queue.
With range extender battery, the Cybertruck AWD version gets an estimated range of 445+ miles (716 km). The Cyberbease variant gets an estimated range of 440+ miles (708 km) with the range extender.
The range extender battery adds an extra range of 110 to 125 extra miles (~190 to 200 km) depending on the Cybertruck variant and wheel configuration (see above).
No Estimated Delivery Date
The interesting thing about the Cybertruck configurator is that its not showing any estimated delivery date for the non-Foundation Cybertruck orders. For the reservation holders, it was showing a flexible estimated delivery schedule of October to November 2024.
Tesla hasn’t displayed any estimated delivery dates for the Cybertrucks. I tried to look as much as I could but was not able to find the delivery estimation.
Tesla must have hidden the Cybertruck delivery timeline to not give a hint to critics and stockmarket bears to get an idea of the production ramp-up and number of orders at hand.
However, in a recent Cybertruck safety recall by the NHTSA, the automaker accidentally revealed the number of Cybrtrucks delivered in the last year (from the start of production in November 2023 to September 2024).
