Tesla (TSLA) unveiled its Robotaxi Cybercab vehicle last week. The company’s CEO Elon Musk made a few bold forward-looking statements at the event that included the launch of the Robotaxi launch timeline.
Musk’s keynote included 2 important points, the price of the Robotaxi vehicle and when the customers be able to buy it.
“We expect the cost to be below 30,000 dollars,” said Musk. More interesting information was that the Tesla Robotaxi would arrive before 2027. This means the last date for it would be 31st Decemeber 2026.
Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) — one of the top tech influencers of the world right now with 19.6M subscribers on YouTube as of this writing — also attended the “We, Robot” Robotaxi unveiling event.
MKBHD posted a video of his thoughts on the “We, Robot” event yesterday (video below). The most interesting part of his commentary was when he talked about the expected timeline of the Robotaxi production.
Let’s first go through what Elon Musk said at the event:
We expect to be in production with the Cybercab — which is really highly optimized for autonomous transport — in probably — well, I tend to be a little optimistic with timeframes — but in 2026.
So, yeah, before 2027 — let me put it that way.
“Tesla Robotaxi unveiling was a couple of days ago, and it might be the weirdest tech event I’ve ever been to,” MKBHD stated at the start of his video (watch below).
“The biggest red flag to me is the timeline stuff, I mean this is notorious Elon stuff,” he said. “He gets on stage, he says we’re gonna have this vehicle out for $30,000 before 2027,”. Marques explained. “No, they’re not, there’s just no way that they’re actually gonna be able to do that”.
“If they do, let’s say they do — I will shave my head on camera,” MKBHD vowed to shave his head on camera in front of the entire world if Tesla and Elon Musk delivered on the Robotaxi timeline.
Interestingly, he endorsed a Threads post mentioning this and he asked Siri to keep a bookmark of this post and remind him on 31st December 2026.
Keeping the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi timelines in mind, MKBHD is most probably right. But there might be a surprise as Tesla has gotten way more efficient in production ramp-up over the years and this vehicle is far more easy to produce than the Cybertruck.
It’s not the first Tesla event MKBHD has been to. He’s normally appreciative of Tesla’s efforts in electrification of the vehicles. He also owns a Tesla Model S Plaid which he said is his favorite piece of tech he has ever owned.
However, if you love to see MKBHD shave his head in a live video in 2027, let us know in the comments section below.
