Tesla (TSLA) has shipped two Semi trucks to its Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany. These class-8 electric semis were spotted in a drone flyover footage by a local observer of the factory.
Two Tesla Semi-trucks were seen getting unloaded from large trailers at Giga Berlin. These trucks were most probably brought to Tesla’s German Model Y manufacturing facility from the port.
Seeing Tesla Semis at the Giga Berlin car factory isn’t less than surprising for many. The unexpected arrival of these electric semi trucks in Europe raises questions in the minds of those interested in the logistics field in this region.
There are basically two reasons Tesla has brought two of its Semi trucks to Giga Berlin.
The first is that Dan Priestly, the Tesla Semi Program Manager is flying to Germany next month for presentations and keynote talks at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover, Germany.
Dan will be delivering a keynote on Tesla Semi at the event on 17th September between 5:00 and 5:15 PM on the main stage. On the next day, 18th Sept, he will be sharing the case study of PepsiCo which is currently using a small fleet of Tesla Semis for delivering its products in the US.
The 2nd reason is the homologation and localized testing and analysis of the Tesla Semi in Europe. In 2021, Tesla announced that the company is planning to build a Megacharging network in the US as well as Europe specifically for the Tesla Semi. This is why I believe these two trucks are going to stay in Europe for a long time to come.
Tesla Semi-truck production has been limited at Giga Nevada (United States) even after the initial batch was delivered to PepsiCo in December 2022. After experimenting Tesla Semi production at limited scale at the pilot production plant at Giga Nevada, Tesla CEO Elon Musk gave approval of its volume production.
With this announcement, Tesla unveiled its plan for the construction of a Tesla Semi factory at Giga Nevada. The automaker also released a render of the finished Semi factory — which has the most contemporary look of a Tesla factory yet (pic above).
Dan Priestly shares the progress of the factory construction from time to time via his boss’s social media network X (formerly Twitter). Last month, he posted a picture of the Tesla Semi factory which shows the foundation work under progress. And yesterday he shared the picture of a pile driver which is probably the first at the Semi truck factory.
