Tesla (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk dug some of his old X posts (tweets) from 2018. These buried tweets were about the next-gen Tesla Roadster and his first supercar — a McLaren F1.
Also, after a long time, Elon Musk mentioned the new Tesla Roadster in one of his tweets. He has largely remained silent on the updates of the next-gen Roadster as he was occupied with new Gigafactories and bringing the Cybertruck to production.
“You will love the new Roadster more than your house,” Elon Musk posted on X (Twitter). This is probably a hint that Tesla has re-started work on the 2nd generation Roadster at least on some level.
Tesla has a few prototypes and clay models of the new Roadster built years ago. The automaker has been displaying the Roadster prototype at annual meetings and other events from time to time. But hasn’t been able to give a solid timeline for the start of its production.
Tesla Roadster received widespread praise for its looks when it was first unveiled at the Tesla Semi unveil event in 2017. In a few instances, Tesla also showcased its insane acceleration as the Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen zipped away from a company event in the new Roadster prototype.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk didn’t just stop at re-igniting the sparking interest for the new Roadster. He also gave some exciting new tidbits as he wrote a few more tweets about the upcoming Tesla sports car.
According to Elon Musk’s 2020 statements about the addition of rocket thrusters to the next-gen Tesla Roadster, the car would go from 0-60 mph in around 1.1 seconds.
Now his latest claim on X (Twitter), the new Roadster will be able to go from 0-60 mph in under 1 second. “0-60mph < 1 sec,” Musk wrote. “And that is the least interesting part,” he stated.
Elon Musk had a long meeting with Tesla executives yesterday evening where they focused on the next iteration of the Roadster sports electric car. Musk announced that the automaker has “radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster”.
Musk also revealed that the new Roadster design and development will be a Tesla and SpaceX collaborative project. This suggests that the next version of the Tesla Roadster is going to get more from SpaceX than just the rocket thrusters.
The electric automaker’s CEO Elon Musk in his series of X posts (tweets) revealed the expected design completion, production start, and delivery timeline as well.
According to Musk, Tesla will complete the design and development of the new Roadster by the end of 2024 and start shipping it to customers as early as next year (2025).
Elon Musk’s product timelines are generally a topic of discussion in the automotive and tech industries. But he says that his projects get delayed but ultimately get delivered. The same has happened with the next-gen Roadster.
As Elon Musk has said, we should be expecting major changes to the next-gen Tesla Roadster’s design. The prototypes that Tesla made earlier have somewhat become outdated and the excitement around its design has significantly diminished. Therefore Tesla has decided to give it a fresh look to re-ignite the interest of customers.
After successfully getting over the hurdle of starting the production of the Cybertruck, Tesla is in a better position to focus on the new Roadster. If Elon Musk meets his deadlines this time, the new Roadster will be a breath of fresh air and heightened levels of enthusiasm in the electric vehicle space.
