It’s not the first time that a Tesla Model 3 Highland has been spotted in the United States. But it’s the first time that Tesla (TSLA) felt easy letting it out on the road without its front and back covers.
The uncovering became easy for the automaker as the car has already been launched globally with the exception of North America and some other regions where China does not export its products (Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and South Korea).
Although the car was primarily designed and developed in the United States (Tesla Design HQ in Hawthorne and Engineering HQ in Palo Alto, California), it has not yet made it to production here.
Tesla launched the new design-refreshed Tesla Model 3 aka Model 3 Highland for sale on 1st September 2023. And almost after 1 and a half months, the car has once again started appearing on the US roads.
An uncovered Tesla Model 3 Highland was just recently spotted in California and a Tesla enthusiast posted the photos on Reddit. Since its production has entered its full swing at Giga Shanghai, this car does not seem to be a prototype. It’s most probably a Made-in-China Model 3 Highland with the same production wheels that are available for customers.
The paint color on this Model 3 Highland is Tesla’s unique Ultra Red, which is currently only available on Model S and Model X in the United States.
Another Tesla Model 3 Highland was sighted a bit far away from California — in Salt Lake City Utah (pics below). But in this sighting, the car was seen again with its covers on.
California has the largest number of Tesla owners compared to any other state in the US. Tesla owners here are generally more informed on the company’s latest developments, so the automaker did not feel the need to cover the Highland Model 3.
In Utah, Tesla hid the new Model 3 refresh, most probably in an attempt to still create some curiosity and excitement around the vehicle.
The increasing appearances of the new Tesa Model 3 Highland in the US and the older Model 3 prices dipping to the lowest in history hints that the car is not far from its launch in North America.
There are no differences in the body structure (frame and underbody castings, etc.) and the battery pack from the previous generation Model 3. So, Tesla will not need to make major changes to its assembly lines at the Fremont factory to start Model 3 Highland production.
On the other hand in China, Tesla has started deliveries of the new Model Y domestically. According to a Chinese news outlet IT Home, the updated Model Y comes with improved acceleration and subtle design changes.
The significant design change in the new Tesla Model Y is the addition of the interior ambient lighting on the same pattern as the new Model 3 Highland.
