Elon Musk gives Cybertruck production and delivery event update, shares pictures of the Tesla truck from Giga Texas

After the Tesla Model 3, it’s been about 6 years since we saw such hype for a Tesla vehicle like the Cybertruck is creating right now. There have been almost daily sightings of the Cybertruck simultaneously in Texas and California as the expected delivery event comes closer each day.

Adding extra salt to the already hyped-up situation, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared pictures of release candidate (RC) Cybertrucks on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter). But soon he was confronted with the questions about the delivery event timeline. At the Tesla 2023 Annual Shareholder Meeting, Musk promised that the Cybertruck deliveries would start this year.

“Just drove the production candidate Cybertruck at Tesla Giga Texas!,” Musk posted on X. However, when asked about the delivery event date announcement, Musk did not give a solid timeline. But he did reply to the question by saying “When we are ready to do so, we will”.

“While I think it is our best product ever, it is an extremely difficult product to build. We are in uncharted territory, because it is not like anything else,” Musk further wrote in his X post.

Although Tesla holds unrivaled experience when it comes to manufacturing electric vehicles at scale, Cybertruck is very different from the rest of the Tesla lineup. Its unconventional low-poly design coupled with a stainless steel body shell alone is a mass production challenge.

Tesla is also using the world’s largest 9000-ton Giga Casting machines for producing large underbody castings for the Cybertruck for the first time. To add to the complexity, quad-motor 4-wheel steering variants are the first in line to go into production.

The best thing about Cybertruck production though is that Elon Musk is personally involved in overseeing the project. “Walked whole Cybertruck production line at Giga Texas for several hours earlier today – gonna be awesome!” he tweeted back in April.

Driving the Cybertruck production candidates himself, he’s able to measure results in real-world testing. Elon Musk’s form of leadership is different compared to other CEOs, he does not sit in the office and wait for the results, he gets involved on the factory floor.

On the other hand, Tesla has started offering Cybertruck delivery event invites through the company’s Referral Program credits. The more referrals you have, the more chances of getting a Cyebrtruck delivery day invite.
