Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made some important announcements regarding the upcoming software updates to the Tesla fleet. Like every year, Tesla owners are anticipating a bunch of new features and infotainment updates this holiday season as well.
Musk has finally replied to Tesla owners’ call for the announcement of the 2021 Holiday Update. Along with this update, the beta testers of the Tesla FSD Beta were also expecting a new update to test during the Christmas and New Year holidays, “Tesla FSD 10.8 plus holiday fun software release probably Tuesday,” Musk tweeted.
This means that the Holiday Update and FSD Beta 10.8 are going to be simultaneously released on December 21st, 2021. And since Musk has used the word “probably”, it can be delayed by a day or two.
Sonic the Hedgehog video game is the only known addition to the Tesla Holiday Update 2021 as Elon Musk confirmed it last week.
Last month, Tesla released added Waypoints into the vehicle navigation system. But the owners on the FSD Beta testing team did not get this update because the branches of software versions are different for normal and FSD Beta users. Elon Musk has also confirmed that Tesla is adding waypoints in the upcoming FSD Beta 10.8 update.
FSD Beta 10.6.1 is the latest version of Tesla’s trial self-driving software that the automaker’s employees and Early Access Program participants are currently testing (a testing video below). Now, Tesla is completely skipping version 10.7 of FSD Beta and jumping directly to 10.8.

“10.8 is close, so just jumping to that,” Elon Musk answered in a tweet about why Tesla skipped an entire build of the software update.
Another FSD Beta tester asked an interesting question to Elon Musk, if “Will 10.8 roll out to 97 scores?” to which Musk answered “probably”. Currently, the Tesla Safety Score criteria to apply for inclusion in the early access FSD Beta testing is 98 out of 100. With V10.8, Tesla might be planning to ease the criteria a little bit.
The Tesla FSD Beta testers who have a significant amount of following on their pages are reporting that they are feeling some improvement from version 10.5 to 10.6 and 10.6.1 has made a good amount of improvement. The improvement in FSD Beta 10.6.1 is mostly felt when the car is taking left and right turns on Autopilot.
YouTube channel named Black Tesla has tried FSD Beta 10.6.1 on the streets and tunnels of New York City and the tester is reporting good progress since the last update. Hopefully, the 10.8 update will make even better improvements when it comes to navigating busy cities like New York and Los Angeles.
