Edmunds bought a Tesla Model Y Performance and they are going to put it against any ICE monster they can find on the automotive globe. I predicted this the last time they put it against a Shelby GT500.
Now that Shelby was utterly embarrassed on the dragstrip, Edmunds brought an even stronger contender, a $295k Lamborghini Urus SUV — the ultimate gas-guzzler. Until now the Model Y Performance was undefeated in several episodes of this drag race series.
However, Model Y still did not face a shameful defeat at the hands of this green hulk of a super luxury vehicle that a few can afford. The Model Y did not disappear in the rear window, it kept its graceful distance.
A brief comparison of price and specs would make us imagine would tell us what to expect from this drag race video.
2021 Tesla Model Y Performance | 2021 Lamborghini Urus | |
---|---|---|
Engine / Drivetrain | Dual-Motor AWD (Raven) | 4.0 liter V8 twin-turbo / AWD |
Max. Power | 450 – 500 hp (est., instant) | 650 hp |
Torque | 470-500 lb-ft (est) | 626 lb-ft |
Weight | 4,419 lbs | 4,844 lbs |
0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) | 3.5 sec | 3.0 sec* |
Top Speed | 155 mph | 190 mph |

Yes, the Lamborghini Urus can jump off the start line from 0-60 mph in just 3.0 seconds. This is why the Lambo won both of the drag races against the humble but agile Model Y Performance.
Edmunds wrote in the video description:
If any SUV is going to beat our beloved Tesla Model Y Performance in a drag race, it better well be the Lamborghini Urus. Our Model Y has beat an impressive list of competitors, including the BMW X3 M, Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, and even a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. Its only real challenge has come from our 2020 Chevy Corvette.
If ICE vs. EV is a contrast in this race, the colors are too, Tesla’s Multicoat Red vs. the Urus Pearl Capsule (a fairly embarrassing shade of green as Edmunds would like to call it in this drag race video).
Interestingly, the green bad boy lost the last rolling race from 40 mph, the underdog Model Y still gave it some tough time in the end.
